Linge

image by Chrystian Kretowicz, 10 June 2010

The flag of the State of Linge (Kerajaan Linge) which I do believe is different from Linga presented above (maybe not - just an earlier flag). It was the first Muslim state formed in 1025 in the Aceh part of Sumatra by Adi Genali, who, supposedly, came there from Rum (Turkey). It was the state of the Gayo people, a distinct ethnic group living in the Gayo Highlinds of central Aceh, known for their devout adherence to Islam, coffee, and the "dance of the thousand hands"

The red flag features the Islamic creed and the names of the four companions of the Prophet. This flag can be viewed in the Karo District, where it is stored.
