The symbols of Virje are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Virje, adopted on4 October 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 5 March 2001 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 11, although they were adopted earlier.
The current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Virje, adopted on 8 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 15 July 2009 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 9, repeat the description of the symbols.
The symbols, designed by Ivica Tišljar, were approved by the Ministry of Administration on 7 July 1995, as reported by Erničić [erc03].
They were consecrated on 11 November 1994, the Municipality Day (St. Martin), in the local parish church (Glas Podravine, 14 March 1995).
The flag is in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms set near the hoist.

Coat of arms of Virje - Image by Željko Heimer, 9 June 2003
The coat of arms is in a golden yellow triangular shield bordered red, a red cloak cut per bend.
The cloak is St. Martin's cloak, St. Martin being the patron of Virje. The cloak has a white cross on the inside and a circular clasp on the dexter shoulder. St. Martin is known for his deed of cutting his cloak in two and sharing it with a beggar. Many coat of arms show St. Martin sitting on a horse, giving a piece of his cloak to a beggar.
