Mahates is a municipality located in the Bolívar Department.
It was founded on 17 April 1533 by Spanish conquistador Pedro de
Heredia.
The flag of Mahates can be
seen in a small image at the municipal
web site with description in Spanish: "Los Colores de la
Bandera son: el Blanco, que representa la Paz y la tranquilidad
de nuestro Municipio, el verde simboliza la agricultura y la
fertilidad de nuestros suelos, la Cabeza de ganado y la Planta de
Maiz nos reflejan las principales fuentes productivas del
àrea."
